1866, August 24:
“National Convention of Spiritualists,” The
Providence Journal, August 24, 1866.
The Spiritual clambake at Rocky Point, Thursday (August 17), was a
success in respect to the numbers who attended it and the pleasure which it
afforded. There was a very large company on the grounds, including some three
thousand from Providence and three hundred and fifty from Taunton. F. A.
Holmes’s Brass Band, sixteen pieces, came over from the latter place. The
splendid music of Shepard’s Band, now regularly employed at the Point, was
discoursed throughout the day to the great enjoyment of a throng of dancers and promenaders. A severe rain storm in the afternoon confined the excursionists
within doors. The speaking took place at one o’clock in the hall.i1
