ran a little shoe repair shop in the District
during the day and entertained in cabarets at night for tips. He led his Accordiana Band in 1894 and later, in 1897, he played in
Alphonse Picou’s
Independence Band at Hope’s Hall. Sometimes he worked with Henry Peyton at the
Big 25, a musicians’ hangout originally on Crozat Street, run - according to
Zutty Singleton - by someone called Arnold Duforseau. Boulboul also frequently
sat in with bands on Iberville Street.
