As a brass band musician he played with:
Kid Ory's Brass Band
Led hometown band in his teens and brought it into New Orleans
about 1908. After getting to New Orleans, the members promptly split up. From
1913 to 1919 he was a prominent bandleader in town, working mainly in the
district at Pete Lala's. He left for Los Angeles in 1919 and never return to New
Orleans. In Chicago he recorded with Armstrong's Hot Five and with King Oliver.
In the revival years of the 40's he made some fine recordings and remained
musically active on the West Coast.16
