As a brass band musician he played with:
Tuxedo Brass Band
In 1901 Hamilton "Hamp" Benton he played in
the district with a trio along with Andrew Kimball until 1905.
He led his own Primrose Band, starting 1906. This was a small reading group that worked in the Storyville cabarets and played on Sunday nights at the Come Clean Hall in
Gretna, across the river. 6,p128-16
He also played with Sidney Bechet and his Creole Orchestra.
