As a brass band musician he played with: Excelsior, Imperial, Kid Ory's, Onward, Tuxedo, Zulu Brass Band

He played with Kid Ory and King Oliver's band in the district. About 1916 he was the bass drummer of the Onward. In 1917 he was leading his own small band. In the 20's he played with Peter Bocage's Creole Serenaders.16

In 1924 he replaced "Black Benny Williams" in the Onward, after his death.
