As a brass band musician he played with: Eureka, Happy Pals Brass Band

Jimmy "Kid" Clayton worked as a trumpet player at the Hummingbird Cabaret from 1925 until the Depression. In 1941 he played in Oscar Celestin's band.

Kid Clayton played in 1950s under the name "Kid Clayton's Happy Pals".

In 1951 he played in the band led by Harold Dejan at Mama Lou's.

Alden Ashford and David Wyckoff recorded him in 1952 under the name "Kid Clayton's Happy Pals". An
other session, from 1962, was recorded by Ken Mills and released on his Icon label. Clarinetist Albert Burbank's contributed to this sessions.
