As a brass band musician he played with: Kid Howard, Bunk Johnson, Original Zenith Brass Band.

He started after WW I with Wooden Joe Nicholas, Kid Rena, Chris Kelly. He formed his own Young Tuxedo Brass Band in 1920. he became famous as the rhythm keystone of the George Lewis ragtime Jazz Band.16
