Traditional jazz bass drummer from New
Orleans, Louisiana. He was one of the great marching band bass drummers in the
Crescent City. Began his marching career with the 'Tulane
Brass Band' in 1925, and played with Chris Kelly for parades in the mid-20's. In the 1930's, he was
with Kid Rena. For the next 25 years he was the backbone of the Eureka Brass Band
and was forced to retire in 1963 by a stroke.16
