* Dec 18, 1887 Bertrandville, La (1895 according to 16)
† Feb 25, 1936 New Orleans, La

As a brass band musician he played with: Eclipse Brass Band

Sam Morgan (brother of Al, Andrew and Isaiah) was a trumpet player and bandleader.

Sam Morgan was one of only two black bands recorded in New Orleans during the 1920s, the Original Tuxedo Orchestra was the other. Only 25 sides were cut during the entire decade!). Morgan's Columbia recordings in 1927 wonderfully demonstrate the early "New Orleans ensemble style" of playing that has now all but vanished. It was surplanted by the "Chicago Style" of Dixieland Jazz, which featured hard-driving solos by talented sidemen. At age 30, Sam suffered a stroke. He died on Mardi Gras day eleven years later. According to 16 this was in 1936, so 1895 could be the right birth date)
