As a brass band musician he played with: Olympia Brass Band

He played in the Brother's Silver Bells Band, 1911; Eagle Band, 1914; Joe "King" Oliver at Pete Lala's in Storyville. He went to Texas 1915-17; was with Clarence Williams and went with Freddie Keppard to Chicago in 1917.16
