In 1930, another of Lew Leslie's lavish
productions, THE INTERNATIONAL REVUE, contained two of McHugh and Fields’ most
enduring songs: On The Sunny Side Of The Street, which was introduced by Harry
Richman, and Exactly Like You, a duet for Richman and Gertrude Lawrence.
Lyrics:
I know why I've waited, know why I've been blue,
I pray each night for someone, Exactly like you.
Why should we spend money, on a show or two,
When no-one writes those love scenes, Exactly like you.
You make me feel so grand, I wanne give this world to you,
You make me understand, these foolish little dreams I'm dreaming
Schemes I'm scheming.
Now, I know why my mother, taught me to be true,
She meant me for someone, Exactly like you.
2,4,6,8,10 that's when my life (love) began,
It's 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,and 10.
I want be be a rug, rug, rug, cutter
Swing out, in the groove, in the groove, in the groove, in the groove.
Jack and Jill went up the hill, to find a pail of water,
Jill came down the hill and said, Jack didn't want no water
I want be be a rug, rug, rug, cutter
Swing out, in the groove, in the groove, in the groove, in the groove.
